Hepatitis E virus, Diagnosis, Extrahepatic manifestations, Mechanism of severity Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is one of the most common causes of acute viral hepatitis. Approximately 20% - 40% of acute HEV patients in developing countries may progress to acute liver failure (ALF), and this percentage is increased in pregnant women infected with genotype 1 HEV, with high mortality. Sporadic acute hepatitis E accounts for 4% of acute or subacute liver failure with poor prognosis. Main research directions:
  1. Extrahepatic manifestations of HEV infection in nervous system, blood system, autoimmune system, etc;
  2. Development of diagnostic markers for the occurrence and prognosis of HEV patients with proteomics, and also establishment of new diagnostic methodology;
  3. Study the fecal microbiota of patients with HEV infection, and to demonstrate that altered fecal microbiota associated with the exacerbation of HEV infection, which might be useful to explore the interactions among fecal microbiota, immune responses, the mechanism of the exacerbation of patients with HEV infection, and shed light on novel diagnosis and therapy for them.

Prognostic nomogram for patients with hepatitis E virus-related acute liver failure: A multicenter study in China

Wu J, Shi C, Sheng X, Xu Y, Zhang J, Zhao X, Jiong Yu, Xinhui Shi, Gongqi Li, Hongcui Cao, and Lanjuan Li

Publication:

In this study, we developed and validated an effective nomogram for predicting mortality in HEV-ALF patients, which may serve as an important complement to methods of HEV-ALF patients mortality evaluation for clinicians.

Dynamic changes of serum metabolites associated with infection and severity of patients with acute hepatitis E infection

Jian Wu, Yanping Xu, Yubao Cui, Mariza Bortolanza, Minjie Wang, Bin Jiang, Meina Yan, Wei Liang, Yiwen Yao, Qiaoling Pan, Jin feng Yang, Jiong Yu, Dawei Wang, Hongcui Cao, Lanjuan Li.

Publication:

Dynamic changes in serum metabolites were associated with AHE infection and severity. The identified meta-bolites can be used to diagnose and predict the prognosis of HEV‐ALF.

Altered fecal microbiota on the expression of Th Cells responses in the exacerbation of patients with hepatitis E infection

Jian Wu, Fen Huang, Zongxin Ling, Shangchun Liu, Jun Liu, Jun Fan, Jiong Yu, Wei Wang, Xiuyuan Jin, Yiling Meng, Hongcui Cao, Lanjuan Li.

Publication:

The presence of altered faecal microbiota is associated with exacerbation of HEV infection, which may be useful for exploring the in-teractions among faecal microbiota, immune responses, mechanisms of infection and progression in patients with HEV.

Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis Associated with Plasma Levels of Interferon-γ and Viral Load in Patients with Acute Hepatitis E Infection

Wu J, Bortolanza M, Zhai G, Shang A, Ling Z, Jiang B, Shen X, Yao Y, Yu J, Li L, Cao H.

Publication:

Dysbiosis of the gut microbiota is associated with HEV infection, plasma levels of IFN‐γ, and viral load in AHE patients.The abundance of Gammaproteobacteria could discriminate AHE patients from HCs, and had predictive value for the severity of AHE
