My laboratory focuses on uncovering clinical features of emerging hepatitis E variants in vulnerable patient groups - especially transplant recipients - in east Asia. In 2018, my team discovered that rat hepatitis E virus is capable of infecting humans. Since then, our work has focused on uncovering epidemiological and clinical characteristics of this novel zoonosis. I am also interested in genotype 4 hepatitis E virus, which is a relatively neglected HEV variant that fully replicates impact of genotype 3 among immunocompromised persons.
