S. Bressanelli has made seminal contributions to HCV research, first with the first crystal structure of the HCV RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) as a PhD student in F.A. Rey's lab (Bressanelli et al., 1999), then as an independent researcher with detailed structure-function analyses of the HCV RdRp in collaboration with the Lohmann lab.  This notably led in the past to the structural and functional elucidation of the JFH1 RdRp and to the groundwork on RdRp activity regulation (perspective in Bressanelli, Science 2015). The Bressanelli lab is now a major proponent of structural biology at the Institute for Integrative Biology of the Cell (I2BC) at Université Paris-Saclay, France. As regards hepatitis E research, we have undergone structural chracterization of HEV pORF1 by a combined modelling and experimental approach. Most relevant to this research, we have been prominently  involved in setting up at I2BC a local implementation of AlphaFold and  crystallization in lipid cubic phases, as well as advancing structural cryo-electron microscopy.
