Dr. Wenshi Wang is the Principal Investigator of the hepatitis virus research group, at Xuzhou Medical University- Key Laboratory of Immunity and Metabolism of Jiangsu Province. He received his Ph.D. diploma from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and successively carried out post-doc research work at Erasmus University Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and Heidelberg University (Germany) in the field of hepatitis viruses. He has published more than 50 SCI papers, with 15 first or corresponding authorship papers in top academic journals such as Journal of Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Trends in Microbiology, and Science Signaling. He received the Kiem Award from the Royal Netherlands Society for Microbiology (2017), the 1st Prize NVGE Gastro-intestinal Research Award from the Netherlands Society of Gastroenterology (2019), and was selected as the cover character of the official journal "DDD NEWS" of the Netherlands Society of Gastroenterology (2019). Currently, his group is committed to basic and translational research on infectious diseases related to the digestive tract caused by virus infection, e.g. hepatitis B and D virus and hepatitis E virus. Main Research Focuses: (1) Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms which orchestrate the hepatitis virus replication cycles; (2) Studying the host-pathogen interaction and the inter-pathogen interactions by employing molecular and cellular biology techniques; (3) Developing novel antiviral drugs/therapy concepts and understanding their mode of action; (4) Studying the host metabolic changes (e.g. lipid) during the virus infection process.
